Led by ace and Cy-Young candidate Josh Beckett, the team is looking to capture its second World Series victory in just four years. Sluggers Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz have already shined throughout the playoffs despite putting up sub-par power numbers at the plate during the regular season. In addition, both Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis have been able to step up their game to become serious slugging threats. With home field advantage, the Boston Red Sox will have a leg up in the first two games of the series. We all know how difficult it is for the opposition to compete at Fenway Park, which may give the Red Sox the edge in the opening games. Colorado Rockies Winning 21 of their last 22 games (dating back to the regular season), the Colorado Rockies have caused many to drop their jaws in awe. In mid-September nobody would have thought that this team would put together a hot streak that would carry them to their first World Series appearance. What's interesting is the fact that during the regular season, the Rockies managed to take 2 out of 3 against Boston at Fenway. During that series, Beckett gave up a season-high six runs and lasted just five innings in his outing. What does this mean for Colorado? Evidently, the team will have an idea of how to get to Boston's ace, and superstars Matt Holliday, Todd Helton, and Troy Tulowitzki are going to have to produce. Predictions This match up will certainly provide one of the most interesting World Series considering the obvious contrast between the two teams. One would guess that the veteran experience of the Red Sox would be able to out duel the youth movement of the Rockies, but after winning 21/22 it is hard to believe that the Colorado kids are going to lose. Moreover, Red Sox manager Terry Francona has a decision to make when his team ventures to Coors Field. Should David Ortiz be given the opportunity play at first base to maintain his presence in the lineup? What does this mean for slugging first-baseman Kevin Youkilis? Will Manny Ramirez be able to adjust to the larger, more spacious outfield in Colorado? All of these issues that need to be addressed should make for an interesting and exciting series of games. However, we all know the saying: pitching wins games in the post season. For that reason, it appears that Boston may have the edge. With potential Cy-Young Josh Beckett on the hill in Game 1, the Rockies are going to have to do whatever they can to get to Beckett and at least get one win before heading back home. With a group of young, inexperienced throwers, it is hard to believe that the Rockies will be able to shut down the surging offense of the Red Sox. But who knows? Final Word: Boston takes the series in 6 games. |
